dish cloths & holidays

knit, knit, knit & more knitting.
making lots of dish cloths, they are so easy & quick to make, though i am starting to lean toward a thicker style, have had many say to me that mine aren't big enough which is true! i measured them they are almost less than half the size than the pattern says. i don't mind so much but that doesn't sell them. so i've been experimenting with needle sizes & different patterns, bought one ball of 10ply & the rest are double 8ply. am also realizing that a larger border keeps them more square too. a lot of mine tended to go lopsided.
very much liking the 10ply rather than the doubled 8ply, will keep tweaking it with the needle sizes til i get them right.

getting the thickness right with the Raindrops pattern

my all time favourite the Pebble dish cloth
had some fun with pictures

Halloween Cat was a quick knit too!

Coffee's hand towel also a quick knit
there were a lot more pebble dish cloths made I didn't put them all in here, also i grabbed the dish cloths i had at our market stall, will replace those with much bigger ones.
for the double yarn i used 5.5mm knitting needles & got a nice soft thick cloth, some patterns were variations on the needle size, depending how it looked.

well that's all from me this side of xmas, am heading out to spend some time with my kids this year, will let you know all about it on the other side. (come home sunday)

wishing all my readers a very merry christmas & a happy new year, all stay safe over the silly season.

thanx for visiting

  2. Your dishcloths look great, Selina. I like the patterns. I am also going to try out Coffeee's pattern. I don't think my knitting is as good as yours though as some of those patterns look complicated. Have a lovely Christmas with your family.

  4. What a great idea to put borders around the dishcloths Selina. Mine always go lopsided after a while. I have only made really simple ones so you've inspired me to try a bit harder!

  6. Hi Selina! I've come across from the your link on my blog to your blog:) I was immediately impressed by all the different dishcloths you've made. I have only made simple dishcloths but would love to try a pebble dishcloth and something with a 'picture' in the middle to challenge myself more. Very inspiring! Meg

  9. Oh my goodness, those designs (and even the plain knit ones) are too gorgeous to use. One of our lovely Farm-gate shop regulars left me a most beautiful gift of two knitted cotton wash cloths. Too nice for the kitchen and for my grotty pots and pans, so I use them in the bathroom. Delightful. :)

    1. ohhhh my sister said the same thing & then went out & bought horrible sponges to do the dishes with! so i made her some really nice thick ones for the kitchen & said to her they are a lot nice to use & plus i think the dishes are deserving of pretty cloths, makes it so much nicer to wash up!

  10. Hi Selena! Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I really appreciate it! It's nice to know that there are other women out there who understand what we are going through. Thanks for the tip that this could pass if I just keep doing what I love! It's very nice to make your acquaintance!

  11. I need to knit my dishcloths bigger too! I really like your patterns, I am going to a knitting and crocheting workshop this weekend, so I hope I can learn something new to use perhaps on my dishcloths as that is the only thing I have been knitting lately - I'm very slow!

  12. Oh I wish I learnt how to crochet when I was little. I love these clothes! I am trying to learn now and my 9 year old daughter is getting mentored by a local expert, and then teaching me!
