short lists ...

the toilet is now clean, not as good a job as i did on the bathroom as i soon discovered i was extremely tired about 10mins into the work but i got it done non the less, ceiling, walls, cistern & bowl are now clean. had to stop frequently as i think i put a little too much of the oxi bleach in the pot   >..<
tomorrow i think i will just sweep the floors & finish washing the pile of clothes & manchester that was clean a few months back (winter garments) they all just need the dust washed off. (not a lot of storage here). then i might treat myself to a spot of gardening.
next week or this, i need to work out some form of 'routine' for my cleaning, have never worked to a routine but would like to try this time round. will have to rustle up those PDFs i got from the DTE simple living forums & write my 'work list' out, this isn't going to be easy as i've always just gone with how i feel & what i 'feel' like cleaning but seeing as i have barely done any in the last few years i think a list might be a good idea, any ideas are very welcome too.

thanx for visiting

  1. I like to use one day every week for just tidying ..no cleaning. I put things away where they belong. Take a laundry basket around from room to room as you go. Things that need to go to a different room go in it. Then check the basket as well for stuff that belongs in the room you are in. This way you are not running from room to room to room all day with one thing at a time. Tidy job gets done faster this way.
Then you sit with a cup of tea and enjoy the rest of the day.
Hope this helps. It also may be a good place to start. By the way don't get caught up in decluttering on this day either. You will end up being in one room. Just tidy and put away. Just my thoughts.
    Did that make sense?

    1. yes, makes perfect sense, i don't have a lot of 'stuff' that needs to be put away, mostly papers to be filed which will be a job for later down the track. that is perfect advice for someone who would still have young kids though
      thanx

    2. I tend to be a piler, so I have to do a walk through the house at least once a week or I end up getting overwhelmed.

  2. I break up every hour into 'points' (weird, I know. A point is 15 mins. So every task I do must not exceed 15 mins. Between each point I have a rest point during which I go and do what ever I like. thus in any given day I spend 1/2 the day working and 1/2 the day doing what ever takes my fancy. Off to tidy the bathroom (1 x point) followed by a cuppa (1 x point) then I will sort the washing and stick on a load (1 x point) then go and read for a bit (1 x point). It is amazing how attuned your mind gets to 15 minute blocks

    1. yes, there are a lot of cleaning advisories who denote the 15 minute clean only & i will probably do that more when i have the rooms 'cleaned' they are really bad cos they have been left so long. but i do like that idea, 15mins on 15mins off

  3. Selina I do sort of the same thing Phil does only in 30 minute blocks. The best thing I have done for myself housework wise is to buy a cordless vacuum cleaner. -I have a ducted vacuum system in the house but I hate taking the vacuum hose out and rewinding it before putting it away in the bottom of the linen closet.- Now I happily run the cordless vac through the house most days.

I also installed a squeegee in the shower and clean the shower walls after every shower and then I spray with Method daily shower spray. It only takes a minute and the shower stays cleaner longer.

  4. Citric acid in the toilet will clean any hard to remove stains. If you can leave it in overnight it works amazingly well. Not that that happens here at all.

the calcium is up above the actual bowl & all down the walls in the bath, i've never seen citric acid in the shops, where can i get it from, sounds like something i need to try.
